As many of you know, I am doing a personal chakra journey throughout the Winter season. I am currently moving from the Crown Chakra into the 3rd Eye Chakra, the energy center governed by the element of Light. A core aspect of cultivating the 3rd Eye is recognizing, honoring and working with archetypal patterns. It is with this activation and intention that I went to my weekly dance at Rhythm Sanctuary.
On my way to Rhythm Sanctuary, I called on the archetype of the Dancer, an energy pattern that has been prevalent throughout my life. The light medicine of the Dancer brings into being a vessel for spirit to express life force energy through embodied movement and connection. Shadow forces of this archetype may show up as performing simply for show, at the expense of true embodiment and authenticity.
When I arrived at Rhythm Sanctuary, I selected a tarot card from the altar, and pulled the Conscious Entity card. A perfect image for me to work with; the peacock feathers and the numerous eyes peering out from behind the central character. The essence of this card infused my dance and lead me on an amazing journey which deepened my understanding of archetypal forces.
As I started my dance, my awareness was very much centered in my 3rd eye, seeing the dancers around me and the patterns of movement being birthed by the music. As I went deeper in my own dance, I came to understand that working with archetypal energy is more then an intellectual understanding. Each archetype has a heart center that plays into their patterning. With this understanding, I took my dance into relationship with others. How does this archetype love? How does this archetype relate? These questions not only lead me into amazing connection with others, it opened a powerful portal between my 3rd eye and my heart center.
From this space of awareness, I went even deeper in my interactions with others. However, there were times when I felt myself being pulled off center, or not completely grounded in my own attunement of truth in that moment. This agitation activated my solar plexus, and in doing so, brought to my awareness, that in addition to heart, each archetype has its own power force, its own strength to engage and disengage. In this understanding, I was able to deepen my embodiment of archetypal energy in a way I have never experienced.
I have always understood the concept that archetypal complexes express themselves in our lives in multiple ways: ie, physical, emotional and cognitive. My dance at Rhythm Sanctuary showed me that my past understanding of archetypes, although expansive, was mainly at the cognitive level. By bringing this energy into the space of heart and power, I was able to embody the essence of a core archetypal force in my life, bringing my cognitive understanding into the physical and emotional realms with integrated awareness.
Archetypes are powerful forces. One way or another, they ask to be lived and realized in the outer world, through us. By bringing both their light and shadow forces into the heart and solar plexus chakras, we are better able to realize the gifts and magic these forces can bring into our being.
What archetypes are prevalent in your life? How do they relate to others? How do they love? What boundaries do they enforce? How can you better embody, understand and honor the archetypal forces at play in your life?
